DEVELOPING MOBILE APPLICATION FOR SATELLITE SUPPORT OF THE COMMON AGRICULTURAL POLICY (Mobi4CAP)
Project Manager: Prof. Dr. Lachezar Filchev (SRTI-BAS)
Coordinator: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Petar Dimitrov (SRTI-BAS)
The “Developing mobile application for satellite support of the Common Agricultural Policy - Mobi4CAP” project is funded by the Government of Bulgaria through a contract (4000129306/19/NL/SC) between Space Research and Technology Institute – Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (SRTI-BAS) and the European Space Agency (ESA) under the Plan for European Cooperating States (PECS). The SRTI-BAS, Loorix Ltd. (Bulgaria) and Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain, Belgium) carry out the project. The main objective of the project is to develop a basic conceptual design of a mobile application for monitoring of the agricultural crops in Bulgaria – Mobi4CAP, based on the Sen4CAP system. The Sen4CAP system is developed by UCLouvain and provides the Paying Agencies (PA) of the European countries tools for implementing satellite monitoring of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) by using satellite data from the Sentinels of the “Copernicus” programme. The staff of the PAs has access to the satellite-derived products via web interface on their desktops. The access to these products would be very useful in the field as well during the on the spot checks carried out by the PA staff. The current interface is however not suitable for mobile devices. The Mobi4CAP project will be a first step towards development of a mobile interface to the Sen4CAP system which will allow access to the products at the field. As part of the project, the partners will collaborate with State Fund Agriculture – PA in Bulgaria, to define the user requirements for the mobile application and to design it at a conceptual level. The project will last one year – 2020-2021.
