SPACE BIOTECHNOLOGY LABORATORY (SpaceBioLab)
 |
The basic objective of SpaceBioLab is to develop an automated system for precise measurement and control of the environmental parameters in order to provide optimal conditions for growing higher plants under microgravity.
Our research was aimed at the development and manufacturing of SVET Space Greenhouse (SG) – the first automated SG launched in space on Mir Orbital Station (OS) in 1990, and of SVET-2 – second generation SG launched on Mir OS in 1995.
Current research is focused on the improvement of the SVET plant cultivation technologies and technical devices for the new generation SVET-3 SG. New environment measurement system for monitoring of aerial parameters and effective lighting system on light-emitting diodes have been developed recently.
Another goal of SpaceBioLab is to transfer some of the technologies of SVET SG in agriculture.
